Connected Review

Connected (Connections) by Kim Karr

What if a ‘Once in a Lifetime’ could happen twice?

Suffering from a past full of tragedy, Dahlia London's soul has been left completely shattered. Happily ever after is a far cry from reality in her world. But, when she is reconnected with her past, the bonds that form are irrefutable.

When River Wilde, lead singer of The Wilde Ones, comes back into Dahlia’s life, the intensity that fires their relationship combined with underlying feelings that have never died lead her to believe she has met her soulmate.

Struggling with confusion as old connections fade and new ones begin, Dahlia's grief begins to lift--but guilt remains. River wants to be the one to mend all that is torn within her.

But with a past that is never really gone, can their future survive?

Have you ever started a book when you really weren't feeling the greatest and thought to yourself maybe now isn't the best time to start this book... only to find yourself so completely engrossed in every word, every detail, that you couldn't put it down?  Yeah - Well that was me with Connected!  I was recovering from surgery, had some nasty complications that made recovery a little more difficult and I didn't really get a chance to read for over a week because I just didn't feel good... BUT one evening after watching almost an entire season of Veronica Mars on the DVR I found myself gazing at my Kindle thinking "I really want to start Connected because I've seen so many awesome reviews for this book from my fellow bloggers"  not to mention the blurb, the excerpt I had received from Kim for the blog tour, and the freaking gorgeous cover had my curiosity peeked.  So I picked it up with the intention to start it and just take it slow... But I couldn't, I ended up devouring it and was so captivated by these characters and their lives that when my three year old woke up in the middle of the night and crawled in bed with me I handed him the iPad and said "Watch a movie monster, Mommy's reading this book".  Of course at the time I kind of felt guilty because I really should have put my kindle down and cuddled him until he was ready to go back to bed... okay so at the time I didn't really feel guilty but I did once I realized what I had done (you know after I finished Connected and after I sat there glaring at the last sentence for about 20 minutes), even though he was more than happy to watch Team Umizoomi until he fell back asleep!  Obviously I am NOT going to get nominated for Mom of Year but what can I say... It's all Kim Karr's fault, or should I say it's Dahlia and Rivers fault?

So here's the deal with the book...

Well hell, I can't even begin to put into words the emotions this book inflicted in me so I can tell y'all why you should read it, other than YOU SHOULD READ IT!!!

Don't hate me, it's one of those books where there is SO much I want to gush about - like:

Did she really just do that?
 Oh. My. God. She did!!!
No wait, what did he just say to her?
What the hell was that about?
He is so darn sweet I want to pinch his cheeks, give him a big wet kiss, and then do dirty things to him!
Oh my God... Did she really just do that?
And it goes on and on and on... but I can't gush because it would give to much away! But it's good my fellow book lovers... It's REAL good!

Kim has done such a wonderful job with bringing these characters to life... Dahlia... I wanted to hate her at times but I couldn't because I was SO inside her head that I felt every little emotion she did.  The love, the hurt, the confusion, the love, reality, the tough decisions... I felt like I was right there with her.  The connection (get it?  Connection?) she felt with River... it was undeniably beautiful, it touched my heart.... both times, and it made me want to call my husband (who was out of town at the time) and tell him all the reasons why I love him!

Dahlia isn't just a fictional character in a book... she's a fictional character that comes across so real that even her mistakes make you love her even more!

Then there is River... Jesus, Mary, and Joesph!  Talk about a new book boyfriend (shh... don't tell my other book boyfriends, because like the Vegas Naughty Mafia T-shirt says - It's not cheating if they're in different books!)... he seriously couldn't have been more perfect.  Don't mistake my usage of perfect because he does have flaws.. but he's perfect for Dahlia!  He's sweet, kind, patient, and funny; but yet still has that cocky bad boy rocker thing going too!  And the things he says to her?  Um... Refer back to my line "I want to do dirty things to him".  But he also said some of the sweetest things to her and because I can't resist not sharing at least 1 quote... because this one is too good not to share and he said it at what I consider the absolute PERFECT moment:
"Those lyrics tell the story Dahlia, our story.  I wrote that song five years ago and even now when I sing it, your face is the face I see."
UGH, you'll understand when you get to it... you'll see WHY that quote (and the rest of it, which I did not share) couldn't have been said in a sweeter or more perfect moment!

Needless to say Connected (Connections) by Kim Karr is one that NEEDS to go on your TBR's... if you've got it there - Seriously, go read it now!  If you've already read it - send me a message on FB or an email and tell me what you think of that ending and what you think will happen in book 2!  If you haven't added it - What are you waiting for?  This is a must read for 2013!

On that note I will ask one question - Is it Fall 2013 yet?  I'm ready for Torn!

Excerpt:
He pulled her hard against him and crushed his mouth to hers. The full force of his passion washed over her, and she gasped. He took the opportunity of her open mouth to deepen the kiss, and she sighed as his tongue stroked hers, warm and inviting. He slid his hands up her ribcage over the tight dress, brushing her breasts, and then pulled back.
“I’m sure you look delightful in this pretty bra,” he murmured. “But I’d rather feel the real you. Can you do that miraculous trick girls do and take it off under your dress?”
“Are you sure?” Nerves filtered through her again. “It kind of props up everything that’s beginning to head south.” He just raised an eyebrow, however, and she cursed beneath her breath, trying to remind herself that she was supposed to be a slinky call girl. Slinky call girls didn’t talk about baby tummies and sagging breasts. “Sorry.”
First she took out the check he’d given her from her bra and popped it into the purse she’d left on the table. “Don’t want to lose that.” She reached behind and unclipped the bra, drew the straps down her arms beneath the sleeves of the dress, then pulled the garment out and tossed it onto the table. She glanced down. The dress was really more of a long, tight tube with small sleeves, and it clung to every part of her body, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination. Her nipples stood out like buttons through the fabric, and her breasts looked huge.
“Wow.” Toby’s eyes gleamed. “You have an absolutely fantastic figure.”
Warmth spread through her at his admiration. “Thank you.”
“You’ve lost some weight.”
“Breastfeeding did that.” The words were out before she could stop them, and she bit her lip. Could she think of any more ways to turn him off?
But he didn’t look turned off. He ran his hands up her body to cup her breasts. “You’re so soft.”
“You’re not,” she said breathlessly as he pulled her to him, his erection obvious even through the jeans.
“Is that any surprise while you’re in my arms, so sensual and womanly?” He moved his large, warm hands over her, making her quiver as he ran his fingers up her back, then brought them around to cup her breasts again. He brushed his thumbs over her nipples, murmuring his approval as her eyes fluttered shut. “You smell fantastic,” he said. He nuzzled her neck and ear, and she shivered.
She kissed him again, holding his face with both hands as she delved her tongue hungrily into his mouth. He tasted divine. It had been so long since she’d kissed anyone—since she’d kissed him, in fact. How had she lived without this for so long?
He was coaxing her body awake, stirring long-forgotten sensations, and an ache grew between her thighs. Her nipples tightened in response to his touch, and she arched her back to push them into his gentle hands. He groaned.
Her fingers itched to touch his skin, so she began to undo the buttons of his shirt, gradually revealing his wide, bronzed chest, shaped with firm muscles. He went to slip the shirt off, but she shook her head. “No,” she whispered, “keep your fuck-me shirt on.”
His eyes widened with amusement. “My what?”
“You heard me. That shirt wants only one thing. You look so damn sexy dressed like that.”
He grinned. “Fine.” He held the bottom of her dress. “But I want you naked.”
Instinctively, she grasped his wrists, stopping him. A skintight dress was one thing. Being completely naked and not in utter darkness was another.
He wrested his hands free, and gently but firmly moved hers away. “My check is now in your purse,” he reminded her. “I seem to remember offering you an amount that would cover pretty much whatever I wanted.” He let go of her hands and held the hem of the dress again. “Arms up.” His voice was firm.
Her cheeks grew warm at the desire in his eyes. Closing her own, she lifted her arms.
He peeled the dress up her body and over her head. The fabric whispered to the floor. Fighting the urge to cover herself, she stood for a moment biting her lip. Even though her eyes were shut, she was sure she could feel his gaze burning through her.
Then his hand cupped her cheek, and she opened her eyes to see him smiling. “Hey, beautiful,” he said.
She looked down at herself, finding it difficult to see anything but the stretch marks and the way her muscles had loosened since childbirth. “You want your money back?”
In reply, he kissed her.

BOUND EXCERPT:
 **Warning:  This excerpt is HOT!!**
Tom took hold of her soft hand, her fingers wrapped gently in his palm. He flicked the light on and carefully led her down the stairs. There was warmth about her. Something made him feel good inside as he reached the bottom. The room lights flickered on. Tom couldn’t help but grin at the dungeon. The black couch rested against the back wall. A large fridge stood a couple of feet to its left.
“Shall we sit a while?” Tom asked her.
“Yes, I need to rest a little.”
“Make yourself comfortable, can I get you another drink of water?”
“Please.”
“Call me Sir.”
“Please, Sir.” Tom walked to the fridge and pulled out a cold bottle and twisted the cap. He returned to the couch. His heart started to pump faster. The sight of his new kitten friend aroused him. She was gorgeous. The scent flowing from her body seemed to target his nostrils. He felt almost faint as he sat beside her. She had a spell on him.
“Sit on my lap, kitty cat.” He patted his thigh and watched as she shuffled across. Her body was light, her flesh warm. He rested his hand on her back and looked at her. There was a distinct sense that he had met her before. She knew him. That was certain. The bottle came up and he put it to her lips.
“Sip. You’ve just downed a whole bottle.” She emptied a quarter of the bottle in a few seconds, sipping it. “Good girl.”
“Thank you, Sir.” The smile almost melted his heart. Then she lowered her eyes, taking the submissive pose.
“Have you and I done a scene before?”
“Not that I’m aware, Sir.”
Her ass pressed down on his groin, Tom could feel himself stiffening against her buttocks.
“So, do you always get distracted when a Dom spanks you?”
“I’m sorry Sir, I don’t understand.”
“All the time the Dom spanked you, you looked at me. Or at least you kept looking my way.”
“I don’t remember.”
“Is your ass sore?”
“A little. Yes, Sir.”
Tom smiled as she took another sip. It was obvious she had plenty of expertise at being a submissive. It came naturally. The way she called him ‘Sir’ after every sentence; the way she sat with her submissive posture. Tom glanced over at the far wall, completely mirrored. He watched her, watched her responses.
“Stand up, bend over, place your hands on your knees, and face the mirror.”
“Yes, Sir.”
Tom took the bottle from her and placed it on the floor. She got up. He admired her figure, the sexy cat costume. Stockings turned him on and she made him wet. The strain was intense. His cock felt imprisoned in the tight leather.
Leaning forward, following exactly the orders he gave, she presented herself to him. Tom sat a moment, looking, not touching.
“You have a pretty ass, kitty cat. It’s nice and rosy.”
“Thank you, Sir.”
Tom sat up and leaned, reaching out. Slowly he slipped his fingers under the rim of her shorts and pulled them. Her soft smooth buttocks were exposed. The red tinge clearly ached as she flinched slightly. Tom pulled the shorts down all the way to her shoes, leaving them puddled at her feet.
“Step out of your shorts and spread your feet for me.”
“Yes, Sir.” No sooner had he said it and it was done.
“Have you got limits?”
“What do you mean?”
“Pain thresholds. Do you like pain?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“How about anal?”
“Yes, Sir. I love anal.” The more she spoke, the more he dripped pre-cum. He would have to move soon.
“Would you like my cock in your anus, kitty cat?”
“Yes, Sir.”
“Would you like my cock in your pussy?”
“Yes, Sir.”

Excerpt:
I picked up the sink sprayer and aimed it at his chest. “Back off, buddy.”

He backed away, his hands raised in surrender. “You wouldn’t dare. You don’t have it in you.”
A challenging grin played on his lips.

“Don’t underestimate what I’m capable of,” I said, reaching with one hand to turn on the water.

He lunged for me. I shrieked and drenched him.

He looked at me for a second, as if he couldn’t believe that I had the audacity to commit such a
crime. He then looked down at his shirt, and back up at me again. “You’re really gonna get it
now!”

I dropped the sprayer, threw a towel at him, and shuffled for the other side of the table, but I
wasn’t nearly quick enough. “No fair, I’m a cripple,” I complained when he pulled me into a
bear hug and pressed his chest into me, soaking the back of my shirt.

“And I’m sick,” he retorted, pinning my arms behind my back and wrestling me to the ground.
His body was heavy on top of mine, his breath ragged in my ear. The stubble on his chin felt
prickly against my cheek as he held me captive on the floor. Heat radiated off him in waves.

“You’re really hot,” I whispered, wondering if he was feverish. It felt like I was trapped inside a
sauna. Not that I minded.

“Thank you.” He flipped me over onto my back, straddled me with his legs, and pinned my arms
down above my head. His nose was inches from mine. “You’re not so bad yourself.”

Struggling with confusion as old connections fade and new ones begin, Dahlia's grief begins to lift --
but guilt remains. River wants to be the one to mend all that is torn within her.

But with a past that is never really gone, can their future survive?

I have to tell y'all that I am in the process of reading Connected right now!  I'd hoped to have it read so a review could have been posted along with the excerpt below but because of surgery and then some unplanned complications that ended up keeping me in the hospital I was unable to start until last night.  BUT I will tell y'all this.... so far, this book has got me so incredibly engrossed that when my 3 year old woke up at 10:30 last night I actually handed him the IPad and said - "Watch a movie monster, Mommy is reading this book"  I never do that and I actually feel a little guilty, well maybe I don't, but I will... once I finish Connected.  Now if only the cleaning and laundry would do itself so I could finish!  Anyway... I will be finishing Connected tonight and my review... well it will go up sometime next week (Shh... look for it on Wednesday 3/27!!)

Excerpt:
I put my hand on his knee. I’m a little shaken by our exchange but for some reason drawn even closer to him. I don’t know if we can recover from this and honestly I’m afraid to go too much further in case we can’t. “River, let’s just end this here.”
Taking my hand from his knee he lifts it to his mouth and lightly kisses it in the same way he has done before. My goosebumps return and I have to swallow a few times to get the huge lump out of my throat. Still holding onto my fingers, our hands now resting on his leg, he lifts my chin with his other hand and rubs his thumb over my lips. “Dahlia, stay and have dinner with me? You owe me that much for standing me up that night. Then let’s see what happens.” He says this very softly, almost like a whisper as he continues to run his thumb back and forth over my bottom lip.

Giveaway:  Kim is giving away one signed copy of Connected (US Only) and One ebook copy of Connected (Open International) so make sure you enter the rafflecopter below!
